How to get a job in Investment Banking?

In order to answer this question we did an interview to Graeme Miller.

Graeme Miller is Head of Research for the Centre for Investor Education.

The Centre for Investor Education works with investors, and asset managers, as they navigate the challenges of achieving investment objectives through innovative strategies and the effective management of risk.

As Head of Research, he oversees the research, investment analysis and development of programs designed specifically for senior investment professionals from the top-40 institutional investment firms.

Prior to joining CIE, Graeme gained extensive experience in managed fund research and market analysis, and he is a CFA Charterholder.

How did you get your first job in Finance?

I was offered an internship for a financial planning / accounting firm and they offered me a permanent part-time position after the program.

I encourage students to take internships during their studies. However, these can be competitive and spots are obviously limited.

There are other ways to build up your CV outside of an internship. For example, I also volunteered for a non-for-profit organisation.
